How to double crochet

A double crochet (dc) is exactly what it sounds like - it’s double the height of the single crochet, and you are doubling the number of times you yarn over and pull through loops. This stitch is my favourite for making cardigans or skirts because it builds up quickly but is still neat and not too loose.

Begin with a foundation chain of any length, or a row of stitches. The turning chain length for double crochets is 3 chains.

To create a double crochet, yarn over then insert your hook into the fourth chain from your hook, or the next stitch. Pull through a loop (you should have three loops on your hook). Yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over again, and pull through the remaining two loops on your hook. You now have a double crochet!
