How to slip stitch
Slip stitches (ss) are great for when you need to travel across your work without creating any extra height. This stitch is also perfect for creating drawstrings or straps – all you need to do is create a chain of the desired length, then slip stitch back over the chain. I also love to use this stitch as a border around finished work for a clean finish.
One thing to watch out for with slip stitches is that they have almost no stretch. If you’re creating clothing, make sure the placement of the slip stitches doesn’t interfere with how you would get the piece on and off your body! For example, slip stitching around a waist band is typically a no go.
To create a slip stitch, insert your hook into the next chain or stitch (no need for a turning chain with this stitch). Yarn over, then pull the loop through the stitch or chain and the loop on your hook. That’s it!
